Recently we asked our members to help us out with the cost of upgrading the site, in the hope that moving into the future would see the end of some small, niggling problems that have been effecting some members.

I am pleased to say that we have now raised more than half the overall cost of this upgrade, thanks to your generosity, and the site will be upgraded in the coming week.

There will be a few changes as a result of the upgrade, and the recent pruning of the arcade was in order to make a transition to a different arcade system much more manageable, as well as reduce server loads.

We will be forced to close the site down for at least a few hours when we make the change, which will probably happen on Wednesday or Thursday of this coming week. I will try to keep this to an absolute minimum period, but there will most likely be intermittent site glitches over the week after this while I change bits of code around to bring new features into the site. These interruptions should only be for a few minutes at a time and cannot be avoided.

Shane and I have decided to go with a darker appearance, which will give a much better background for the photographs, though we have selected a style that still provides an easy to read text. Sneak preview...

Screenshot.png

The chat system we have used up until now will also be upgraded within a couple of days of the change and should give us the capacity for video chat in a much more user friendly environment.

Thank you to all who have contributed so far, it is greatly appreciated. Keeping the site running and non commercial depends on your support, and any donations received from our members will always be used to provide for the growth of our little community here. If this site helps you in some way, then please consider helping the site through a donation, and together we can continue to improve the membership experience here for everyone.

Hi Folks,

In one word........ Superb.

Well done, I know how much work can be involved for major overhauls so I appreciate the efort that has been made.

I'll shout you a drink sometime.

Only one other comment .
As you can see my interests are wide and therefore I seem to occupy more space than most when I make a post. Can The "Interests" part of profiles be removed from the posting section, if people wish to find out what someone is into they can just check their profile or of course the easy solution would be for me to reduce my "Interests" Posted Image

Thanks Cascade. Will be removing the interests part from the posting section, and I do realise there are a quite a few little things that will require fixing. Please bear with us over the next few days, while things are sorted out. I mainly wanted the major part of this upgrade done today so the site was at least up for people.

Much work yet to be done, not enough time to do it LOL

Please folks, do keep sending suggestions and error reports, we can't fix what we don't know about.

Your welcome.

The other thing I just noted. Bottom left of forum page.

I assume its a language setting. Not sure why its there but if we could have English Aus selection as well, it would be appreciated. Nothing against the American nation but "I ain't gonna let em control how I spell stuff." Posted Image

If you use firefox, then English Australian dictionary is available. The language selector will vanish in the coming days

Thank you Dave

Re the time issue, the problem is the server does not realise daylight saving has finished and this is also individually controlled depending on the time zone each member has set. In order to get the correct times to display click the drop down next to your name at the top right corner of the header, select "my settings". On the page that opens uncheck "DST Correction", this will give you another checkbox that needs to be unchecked "Currently in DST?"

Also, having got this upgrade up and running I am suddenly faced with a whole new and vastly different layout system, which is going to require a little learning on my part. Repairs to appearance are going to take a few days to sort out as a result. A planned trip to Cradle Mountain in the morning means very little will be done tomorrow.

There will be an arcade running by the end of the weekend, and most other things that need to be rectified will hopefully be done by the end of the weekend as well.

Fixed the time issue thanks.

Just noticed the Admin .gif is not showing under Shane V and your own Avatar's.

Looks good now the "Interests" info is not showing, thanks again for that.

Enjoy your time at Cradle, I had my day there last Sunday. Posted Image Ckeck out along the boardwalk area at Ronny Creek, there was a mother and baby wombat browsing there last week around 10.00am.

I'll have a look through some of my stuff later and see if I can't dig out a few. Got some excellent ones from Bakers Beach a few months ago. Unfortunatly the mother and baby at Cradle I only got on my phone as I didn't take my camera Posted Image because I needed all my pack room for other stuff when I did a trip to the Scout Lodge. Which by the way is available to the general public. www.BPLodgeTasmania.com.au

Thanks for the kudos guys. Much appreciated. The yay and dancing elephant will return over the weekend. Been concentrating on some larger issues that I am aware of but most would not notice. Today, am totally buggered, after wandering up and down hills all day. Time for a cold one and relaxation.

Thanks Cascade for the info on the map, will get that one sorted tomorrow. Also, thanks for the heads up on the baby wombat, have just posted a pic I took earlier today, guessing it could be the same one you saw. Post is here.

Very nice to see that we are getting info on things that may not be working, or that are missing. Believe me, half the time, unless someone tells us about these kinds of thigns, we simply do not know about them, and what we don't know about, we cannot fix.

Update on the Campsite Interactive Map... With the upgrade all of the URL's here have changed. The map had these hard coded into it, and they will all now require changing, which basically means I have to rebuild the map from scratch.

For now the post that contained it has been made viewable only by admins, and I will repair and reinstate the map once everything else is running smoothly.
