If it is the personal messages button you are looking for, it can be found by opening the drop down menu next to your name in the top right hand corner of the board, option "Messenger"

Joss,
It can also found under a members name when you are reading a post. Its the one that looks like an envelope. If you look at Mystic's avatar to the left of her post. Underneath there are 3 small icons showing if you move your mouse pointer over them you will get popups that say "Add as freind" + "PM this member" and "Gallery", click on "PM this member" and you can send that member a private message direct from the forum page.

Dave,
I just sent you 2 PM's direct from this page. Mine is probably the same as yours.. Only 2 icons under Site Supporter as I don't have a Gallery either.

Thanks Cascade, you are correct. Another aspect of the new PM system, (now called conversations) is that you can actually invite up to a total of 6 people to participate. If a new person is invited after a conversation has started they will be sent a copy of the conversation to date. As each comment is displayed in a forum post like structure, there is no more direct quoting in each message, so it is a much cleaner messenger system. To invite extra participants simply fill in their display name in the box that appears on the left hand side when reading a private conversation.

@Dave.."reputation" is a new feature of the updated system. In each post, down at the bottom right corner you will notice a green plus and a red minus. If you think a post is good or helpful, clicking the plus sign will add one point to the score of that post and one point of reputation to the person who made it. Clicking the minus button, if you think the post is objectionable in some way, will subtract a point. I have not explored the reputation system fully, but do know that when you get 50 points in the positive, personally, you will see the neutral change to "Excellent". So the reputation system is kind of a way that people can be deemed as highly respected members, as voted for by the other members.

ah! thank you Anna, that explains it perfectly and makes very good sense! a great idea I think to sort out the time wasters from the gooduns! but now this has been made apparent I think some of us will vote a wee bit more..........(Hmm! Dave thinks to himself, he has only 3 votes out of 100 answers, oh ohhh!! may be looking at the order of the brass boot here!!)

and thanks to you also cascade well explained once again!

You could look at things regarding your 3 votes the way indicate, or you could realise that these buttons have been used rarely, and probably totally un-noticed by most most people. Am looking into a few things to enhance the reputation system, maybe, possibly, perhaps :P

ok, not sure if this is the correct place for this. I have added a picture to my profile but when i am posting it is not appearing. Have i missed a step or made a booboo?

Also, is 'casual visitor' on my profile purely as i have only joined recently or is it because i need to change something?

With the picture I think you may have added it as your "profile picture", but not as your avatar. Try adding the pic as your avatar, and if it still does not work let me know.

The casual visitor is a ranking that is based on the number of posts you make in the forums. It will change for the first time after 25 posts. I have often thought of creating a topic to show what the ranks are and how many posts are required to get there, but some things should remain a mystery ROFL
