Thanks, any chance of seeing a pic, or is that not possible? What part of Tassie are you in?

Do you have a friend who can take a pic? I could potentially be interested, but am not doing a trip to Hobart in the near future.

Thanks for the pics. How negotiable is your price? I will be down that way later this week and might be interested, but would have to talk about the price.

Not very, I have an offer for $90, but have been told it is possibly worth $150-200, however, you are welcome to have a look at it and make an offer

I think you might find it's an Indonesian Sword that is awarded to military personel only, as a gift of honour. The estimate of age could be about right.
This link will give you a double dutch explanation. But no doubt could lead to further research from some of the hints in the explanation.

Artical 6 & Artical 8 gives the general gist of what its about.
It may be a awarded to members of special palace guard or something similar.

Thanks for the info, it seems you have partially identified the sword's origin, I have to agree, definitely of Indonesian origin.

Probably best described as modern, is about 30-40 years old, of unknown South American origin
Thanks to 'Cascade' now identified as of Indonesian origin
You may view similar sword at http://1serendipity-...is&sword11.html priced at 4,600,000.00 Indonesian Rupees, about $550 Australian Dollars
