Hi! I'd like to advertize an initiative of the Derby History Group of which I am not yet a member!!!!
Over the month of May this small but enthusiastic group have organized a series of walks around the historic tin mining town of Derby, north-east Tasmania (on the A3, Tasman Highway between Scottsdale and St Helens.)
Dates: Sunday May 2nd and 16th : a walk to the Tunnel and on to the monument where we have lunch ane enjoy the fantastic views of Derby. Then, view Fish Rock and walk to the Mine Hole (on private land and not normally accessible!)
Torch and good footwear is essential. Take away lunch is available at the Tin Centre.Start 10.30am at the Schoolhouse Museum, 53 Main Street, Derby.
Sunday May 9th : A walk through the town to look at the historic buildings and find out what life was like in the old mining days, ending with afternoon tea at the historic Town Hall. Start at 2pm at the Schoolhouse Museum.
Sunday May 23rd : For the more energetic. A walk to the Cascade Dam where we have lunch, view the swinging bridge and see remnants of the Water Race. 8km approx. Start 10am at the Schoolhouse Museum.
Fees : walks by donation. Afternoon tea at the Town Hall $5.00
Bookings essential : Phone Carla after 4pm on 0417126276 or email derbyschoolhousemuseum@gmail.com
Thanks everyone. Joss and I are donning our walking boots and checking it out. Don't know if Bryd's legs will be long enough for it all this year but next year, now worries, he'll be a grown up Border Terrier and will well deserve his nickname!!! Ask Shane!!!
hope to see you all here.
Cheers di

Sounds like some great stuff happening around town Di. Would love to have come up for some of those things, but have a trip down to Hobart and surrounds planned in two weeks time, which is taking all available resources. Hope it all goes well for that beautiful little town.

Just a thought Di, but have you checked out the calendar system here? You might like to add events like this to that system.

ok Anna, will check it out. All still very new and things happening all over, not to mention the little guy who is a full-time job in himself. Will get back to normalcy sometime in the next millenium.
