I was in Tassie in March, see my report HERE, and had a fantastic time. But I also had something I didn't expect...a job offer! I'm from Ireland and I was over for the Irish Association of Tasmania's Fleadh (music festival) and I met with tons of other Irish people. But the most important one was a guy who moved over 2 years ago and is a manager of an IT firm doing work for the government. He said that he would have a position for me and even offered to sponsor me for the visa!
So I have taken my time over deciding about this and I think I am now erring on the side of Tasmania. I have been looking at domain.com.au for houses to buy, and rent, and was just wondering if there is any areas that I should avoid, or would be best to get into. I have focussed my search on the western shore, my young sister lives in Mount Stuart, while friends live in West Hobart and Glenorchy. There are some beautiful houses in Lenah Valley, New Town and Dynnyrne but I don't know what any of these places would be like to live in.
Any advice you can give would be appreciated, bear in mind that I would have a ceiling of about AU$550,000 if I were to move, and buy, so value for money is also a concern.

Congratulations on the job offers. Been too long since I lived around Hobart, and I would not know how many areas have developed in the meantime. A couple of areas you might like to consider that often throw up reasonably priced houses are around Fern Tree and Mt Nelson. Both areas, however do run the risk of being snowed in at times during winter.
Best of luck with everything.
