Hi Guys,
I am Nicolas from Melbourne. I am thinking of coming to Tassy with my girlfriend for a romantic trip in March. I am 21 and I actually have my driver's licence with a P plate. I am desesperately looking for a car hire or other alternatives during my 5 days in Tasmania.I really think that a car is a MUST in this destination (I might be wrong). Could someone please refer a car hire or someone that lends car for hiring? I have looked on the internet and I only found one that accepts drivers with P Plate but costs $467 for 4 days (quite expensive). If you could propose some alternatives to me please that would be awesome.
Thanking you in advance.
Cheers
Nick

Hi Nick and welcome. Your request could be tricky, though have you checked Wicked? They have an office in Hobart and do hire to P Platers.
You did not mention where you would be arriving in Tassie?
You really do need a car to get around, the bus services are pathetic outside the cities.

Thanks for your prompt replies. I am gonna check Wicked right now. I am normally coming by plane (Hobart Airport), its cheaper with Tiger. But maybe if I take the boat and bring my car it might be cheaper that renting a car there. I will have a think about it.
Thanks guys. I'll let you know

G'day mate, look theres really only one answer to that, bring your own car, the hire company's want an arm and a leg as well as a huge deposit plus insurance, have a nose in the spirit of Tasmania website,............. the fares at the moment are up to half price!..........we go this way every few years! with a toyota camper
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those that mind, dont matter and those that matter, dont mind!!!
if you come across someone without a smile,.................. give them one of your's....... and watch it grow!
never be mean with a kind word, ........................you may need one yourself one day!
just as I get used to today along comes tomorrow!

Good luck Nick. If the option is there for you to bring your own car on the Spirit, not only will it be much cheaper, but give you a lot more flexibility too. Hire vehicles have a lot of restrictions on them, in particular they are generally not to be taken on gravel roads. During my travels around the state I found there were far too many places I wanted to see that were gravel road access only, such a restriction would have shattered me.
