Tassie is going to be extra cold for the next two or three days with a massive cold front coming directly up from Antarctica. Conditions are expected to be similar to the coldest on record back in 1986. Snow down below 300 metres today and to sea level on Thursday.

If you are visiting, be warned that the west coast will most likely be cut off by the end of today, and could remain that way until Friday, other highland roads will be seeing a lot of snow, which means popular places like Cradle Mountain could pose a few problems. If you are planning on going into such regions be prepared to stay for a couple of days at least as this may be your only option.

Swells up to 14 metres are expected in the south, 10 metres in the west and similar swells on all coastal waters.

In short, if you are visiting Tassie from Queensland or any other very warm location, you are going to freeze your bits off over the next couple of days

On the bright side, this is the best chance so far of me seeing snow on my front lawn

it's getting a bit chilly here as well, I had to put a jumper on last evening!!!!!!!!!....................we've just had the coldest winter in 12 years also the wettest, ........................ dont lick light poles,.............. you wont get your tongue back and dont eat yellow snow!................................ stay warm folks!

I haven't taken a jumper off for ages Dave...but I don't mind the cold. You might hear me bitch and whinge but that is just being a typical Tasmanian LOL
not gonna lick any poles...I was just looking out the back and it seems most of the snow has melted...so I'm gonna grab Mystic and we're gonna have a look at a local waterfall...weather permitting of course

This week's pictures will be brought to you by the letter F (fffffff.....reeezing) Licking poles is definitely not on the agenda Dave. The waterfall was flowing nicely, but Shane and I split up and went in different directions. He went to the falls, I went almost to the top of Mt Lyell. Chilly winds and mild showers during the wander, but had fun, though I don't think my knees are going to be happy tomorrow. Have to have a look at my pics and get a few processed ready for posting

She was flowing beautifully I also need to go through some of my shots. I followed a track around to the falls...the track does go further and I reckon it would be something to do on a nice day...just to see where it goes.

very grey and foreboding, love the snow, where is horsetail falls, we missed that one! just have to go back again and check them out

It was pretty chilly Dave. Horsetail falls is located at the top of 99 Bends, the road into Queenstown from Hobart. It is one that depends on a bit of rain for it to be flowing. So if you came through and it had been dry you may not have seen it.

Well, you know what they say about snow covered peaks... great to look at - but who'd want to go there? Now that question has been answered - Shane! Lol

Enjoyed them all, but the 2nd shot is the one for me. Looks like that spot would be a great place to contemplate your navel... if it wasn't so bl@@dy cold!

yep we have driven that road many times but have yet to see the falls, probably too dry, just my luck, as for the snow on the mountains we are looking into a snow trip perhaps the year after next, I just hope I dont get snaffled up by them snow bunnies, just too damn good looking for my own safety!........... how's that song go "oh lord it's hard to be humble........." LOL!!! ...........might go on a cruise instead, ................Vanuatu looks nice and is cheap nowadays
