howdy doody everybody!, well as the heading suggests we have "spring" yay! after the wettest September on record and the wettest year for 15 years we thought we would take a drive yesterday to see some flowers, well 960 kilometres and 145 photo's later I will let you be the judge whether we found some nice one's or not, the minister for the deployment of travelling expenditure snaffooed my piccy snatching apparatus and I dont think she did a bad job, I wont bore you with all the shots but merely bore you with a minute selection, the flowers were absolutely everywhere and in patches of up to 100 mtrs round, amazing to think we are in the driest state of the driest country on earth and yet this appears, ..............oh and I chucked a few in for Shane of a little spot called "WOOMERA" a big boy's playground with lots of nifty "toy's" anyway here are some shots of our desert in bloom! as seen through the eyes of grumpy housewife,....................... why is she grumpy I hear you say, ..................I'm glad you asked, ...........it was blowing pretty stiffly and the damnable flowers wouldn't stay still, GRRRrrrrr!!!

I hope you weren't bored too much, some may be out of focus but when you get to our age everything is out of focus, wifey came home tottaly bedraggled and windblown but very happy, had a lovely cuppa and a chat with a couple from N.S.W. at spuds roadhouse to top off the day!

Some nice shots in there Dave. I love those desert peas, and the third shot really came up well. Damn wind can be so frustrating at times, so I can understand the annoyance of She Who Must Be Obeyed.

The minister for the deployment of travelling expenditure did a bloody good job in the conditions Dave. Congratulate her for me :) Love all the flowers...

And thanks for getting the shots of the boys 'toys'...they are awesome.

Looking forward to some more of your images :)

thanks Anna and Shane I'll pass the kudo's on, the conditions were really not that flash and I thought, given the blustery weather and the drive (almost 500 Kms to get there), she did very well, she is only small and found the camera very heavy as well, she found it very hard to get her head around the new gear and really I'm surprised that anything decent came out at all, never mind, she had a ball, loved every second of it, I'll place more up as I get time! I got a few more of the rockets and various planes, we spent a lot of time just sitting and looking at the spectacle, must have been a bit strange to see two old farts sitting out in the mulga in the middle of nowhere in between Woomera and Roxby Downs just staring at the flowers

never mind cant see every wonder in the world, hard to think that in a month or so's time it will be in the 40's and sand will rule again, I will try to get some others up here for you to have a look at!

I actually had a "Lyn" around for a cuppa just a few minutes before so that explains but does not excuse the muddle,

yes the piccys are not too bad
some are blurred (wind) and some are OOF! (inexperience) but a great day was had,

when I upgraded my gear I gave my wife the Fuji s9500 which I thought was a pretty good bit of kit and she like's it but now she has played with the 50D I cant get it off her!.............................. I will have to keep it under lock and key!.................. it may get to the stage where she is better than me simply through using the thing........ "YIKE'S"....................... I cant have that now can I

thanks Bandi, yep absolutely magnificent up there at the moment, hundreds of miles of red sand and patchy scrub then a small section of absolute unbelievable beauty, the flowers were just magnificent and really cant be captured by any lens as the scene as a whole has to be taken in the correct context, doesn't matter how good the camera is it will never capture the harshness, I have a picture of the " Cazneaux tree" ........... http://www.southaust...om.au/trees.htm ........... which is generally recognised worldwide as the spirit of endurance, it is in this mould that the desert flowers fit, something of immense beauty and delicate structure that simply does no belong in such a wild world .....Posted Image

simply magnificent!

Woomera is a funny little place that is slowly being sold to southerners, it was once a grand town obviously but as the space race has ended so has Woomera, all that remains are a few die hard locals and some rockets from a by gone day! a very good place to stop for a nose on the way to somewhere else!
