Took the new lens down to the local cemetery today for a good test run. Will post a few more pics later, but really liked the result of this experiment. This was quite a large flower, about 4-5 inches across and I was shooting from a distance of about 14 inches. No way was I going to be able to shoot the entire flower in a single shot, so I started doing a panorama of the flower (total of 9 shots to get the full flower), adjusting the focus as I took each frame, which kind of makes this shot a panoramic macro with focus stacking.

I DOOOOOO like this lens :) yay

Gorgeous flower... but the technical side of it just goes straight over my head. :(

'a panoramic macro with focus stacking'

I know I shouldn't ask... but can you explain (in not too technical terms) why the above is better than a single, well focused shot of the whole flower?

The whole flower would not fit in a single frame...not unless I moved back about 10 yards, then I would have ended up with a lot of other stuff in the picture (it was part of a a bunch). I just wanted this single flower. Plus I also wanted the detail throughout the flower, so I wanted everything about it to be in focus.

Thanks for the explanation, Anna. I can at least understand that you wanted the whole of the flower to be in focus. :)
