Received another new lens today (SMC Pentax M 50mm f1.7), just in time for a night of playing in the cemetery under a fullish kind of moon. Only just got back and starting to play with shots from the night, but this one jumped out at me right away.

Shot at around 10pm, no flash used, 30 second exposure @ f1.7

That's great Anna! The f1.7 sure opens up some intersting possibilities. It's worked a treat here

Thanks Anthony. First time I have had the chance to play with f1.7, and it definitely opens things right up. Will be a lot of fun learning this lens.

A few more shots from the cemetery tonight..

The only drawback with this lens is that I can't necessarily remember which f-stop I used for each shot. It is a full manual lens so the aperture size is not recorded in the exif data. No biggie though.

Was a lot of fun out there in the dark Dave, and the trickiest part was trying to make sure things were in focus. Not made any easier with no light sources except the moon. As for it being dark outside at night, take a look at that first image again...night is only dark until you strip the illusion away with a long exposure on a large aperture setting ROFL

Oo... looks like you'll be having lots of fun. The blue sky night shots feel a little weird, though I like the not so light ones showing the stars.

I'm thinking that lens will be fantastic for shooting nocturnal animals etc.

Thanks Natalie. Yep should be fun with creatures of the night. Going to Trial harbour tomorrow and staying overnight. Usually a few pademelons and such out at night so will play with those and the lens. The skies, with blue at night do seem a little strange, but it just goes to show that it is not really all that dark at night, its just the way we see it.

Br brave Dave, you is a big boy now ROFL
