It never fails...a few warm days, then a bit of rain... and the huntsman's decide it is time to come inside and stay dry and warm. I don't mind these guys, but they belong outside, or they can hang in my laundry, or sheds. I was nicely relaxed, wandered into my kitchen, and out of the corner of my eye, what do I spy???? And, of course they always seem ten times larger than they are (the buggers are big enough as it is). Just as well I was on my way to the loo at the time ROFL

I figured that after scaring the heck out of me, the least this critter could do would be to sit nice and still while I snapped a few quick shots off. Hmmmm... I wonder if spiders get blinded by the flash???? ROFL

Nice pic, Mystic. Have to agree about huntsmen spiders - don't mind them, but they do belong outside. We get some very big hairy specimens of spiders up in the tropics... which make huntsmen look like infants.

One day I was sweeping the floor, and found what I thought was a dead flower head in a corner. I bent down to pick it up, all the while wondering how a dead flower head had found its way there... and as my hand got close, one of the 'petals' moved. It was a bird-eating spider, which had its legs folded up under, so the body sac looked like the centre of a flower and the legs looked like petals. I caught it in a large jar and took it for a walk back to the rainforest, then let it go.

Got lots of spider stories... :)

Thanks Natalie. Scary story, made me shudder. Those bird eaters are HUGE spiders.

I lived just outside of Byron Bay for a while years back and we had these things that built huge webs each night, of course stretched directly across the pathways between house and sheds etc. The spiders that lived on the webs were monstrous black things. Did not mind them when I knew they were there, but walking into a web at night certainly gave me the willies. Mad panic to find the huge spider I was now supporting. Damn, that still sends shivers down my spine.

ROFL Dave you hit the italics. He was, in the larger version you can actually see that I am reflected in the eyes. Something freaky about having one's own reflection in the eyes of a spider.

Little critters must think they pay the rent here. This one decided the top of one of my door frames was a nice place to site for a while.

Hmmm lots of spiders and snakes lately, and a spattering of cemetery shots...I wonder if the Gods are trying to tell me something ROFL

Nice shot, Mystic! At least they earn their keep. :)

And speaking of unpleasant surprises - hope you don't mind if I tack this one on here... woke up at 3am this morning to find this monster climbing up the wall:

Grasshopper.jpg

Huge and fugly! I think the cat brought me a present, since we went out all day yesterday and left her home alone.

I had one of those spider things on my blind the other day...didn't notice him at first...then he moved. And of course this was just after reading an article on a study about spiders....freaky :o
