Hi Carolyn & Tony, and welcome. Good luck with your move, hope all goes well for you.
please feel free to ask any specific questions you may have, but also take a look around, especially in the Questions and Possible Answers section. You will find that there have been loads of people before you who have shared their experiences of making the move from various parts of the mainland.

Thank you everyone for your help. We have read the questions and answers section - they have been very helpful. The Northern areas looks like they might suit us best. Somewhere quiet so we can do a bit of fishing and snorkelling.

Hi everyone
We've been doing alot of homework for our move to Tassie. The hardest has been trying to find someone to move our furniture etc for a reasonable price. We understand we are a long way from Tasmania - but $9,000 is a bit extreme or is this the norm lol. Our next option is to hire a truck, but unfortunately can't find a rental company that will do a one-way from Cairns-Devonport. Our last option is to sell up and start again. Was hoping to avoid that. Still looking forward to relocating to Tassie and hubby's looking forward to joining you all for a cold beer lol

Have you looked at U-Move Australia/ Webiste http://www.u-move.co...relocations.asp
We know one person used them to move from Perth for a cost of $3500 for a container load. They drop the container at your place, give you a week to pack it, them move the container to your new location and give you a week to unpack. Certainly cheaper than your current best quote. Pert/ Cairns, not much difference in distance, and, as I imagine they are using the nearest sea port, should not be a great deal of difference in price.
That info, if it works, has got to be worth a

Would look forward to catching up when you make it down this way
