Hi everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself: I am a permanent resident (Dutchie) and I have lived in the South West of WA with my hubby for the last five years. We have built a beautiful home here and we enjoy the area, but we fell in love with Tassie when we visited a couple of years ago. We long for the cooler weather, fertile soils and the slower pace of life. Where we are now, it is getting busier and hotter by the year. The area we love most is the Deloraine/Mole Creek area. We are just unsure about the job prospects: I am a primary school teacher, hubby is in IT. Any advice would be very welcome.
Thanks for your help!

Hiya freckles and welcome to Real Tas. I'm not sure about job prospects...I think there are a couple of posts on the subject in the forums...can't think of exactly where right now.
Enjoy your stay here, have a look around the forum and if there are questions that have not been answered please don't hesitate to ask :)

Hi Freckles, Welcome to "Real Tasmania" .
Nice part of Tassie although I like the variety of the NW. Mountains, beach & sea, white water, caves, etc all within 15 minutes from home. Although at worst your only an hour from some of the best northern beaches at Narawntapu National Park, along with good camping and facilities at reasonable cost. Quamby Bluff on the doorstep if you need to get high. Some fairly speccy touristy caves not to far away.
You should not have to much trouble with finding employment in the teaching area although you may have to travel initialy. If you do jump in and make the move, sign on with the Ed dept before you leave and give them your expected availability date as long term & short term Relief Teaching is consistantly available in the State and Private system which should help you until you are able to find something more permanent. You may find that if you have excellent skills and fit in well at the schools in which you obtain work there may even be an offer of a position forthcoming at a later date. As for IT.. Well there are lots of places that could employ depending on what your field is in IT. It could even be worth a chance having hubby slip his resume to the ED Dept as well. Not sure how they are off for IT techies at the moment. I shall be attending a school staff dinner this Saturday night and will see if I can find out anything for you from the head IT technician if he is there.

Nothing surprising about people down here being helpful freckles. It is one of the reasons I love Tasmania. We still have a sense of community, and people like Cascade are the norm, instead of the exception.

I am sure you will never regret the decision to make this your home :)

Ok freckles,

Had a chat with the IT guys last night. Their advice was to make a show of interest and watch the gazetted jobs list in all department on the http://jobs.tas.gov.au./ website as I previously mentioned and hop in quick when there's one that interests hubby. Good luck.
