G'Day all,

I spend a lot of time travelling and finding the amazing things Tasmania has on offer. I have lived here for 20 years and seen a lot of the state, both by land and sea. I love my photography, especially panoramas, and use photography as a reason to go exploring. Hoping to contribute and share my experiences with you all and learn from you also. I haven't seen too many threads from the south of Tassie so I will gladly help out there B). Hoping to get into night time 'city scape' photography (something I have had no experience in) so any tips and tricks would be great

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum, I am not a Taswegian although I consider myself an "honorary" one after visiting many times and more plans to do so in the future, I am also a photography nut as you will see in my posts, I think you will find most of us on here follow that line, anyway if any of us can be of any assistance then be sure and let us know! Hi Chris and welcome to Real Tas :) I'm really looking forward to seeing your images, especially you panos, one of my favourite styles of photography and also looking forward to your contributions. I haven't spent a lot of time in the south, although I wouldn't mind getting over there at some point and just camping around, taking photos and relaxing.
Night time city scapes I have done a couple of times. Best advice I can give would be take the tripod. Have a good wide angle, lowlight lens. Last time I shot Hobart I had my ISO on 100, but have also tried ISO 200 and 400. The noise increased with the higher ISO's but the exposure wasn't as long. I suppose checking your shots after you take them would be a good idea, just to see if you have snapped a decent shot. And I suppose try taking the same shots at different settings to see which ones are best. Have fun with it.
What gear do you use?
Nice to meet you and enjoy your stay

Thank you for the welcomes

@ Shane; I use a Nikon D60 with an 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens, along with polarisers, tripod etc. I haven't actually got any of my photos that I have taken with it on me though :P Below however is a panorama I snapped with my little Sony W110 of Gunns Plains in NW Tassie (So much for Southern photos )

As you can understand I love this little camera as a quick snap camera. I have a lot more where this came from.

Oooo

I also forgot to mention. In my spare time I do professional web design and graphics design. I noticed you guys have the West Coast Photography Club but the East Coast seems to be lacking a club :P So just throwing the idea around out there, if I can get some keen interest I would love to create an East Coast Photography Club. Possibilities are endless, could have inter-club competitions, adventures, annual meeting and greeting of clubs, start up an online store selling photos donated to the club by members to fund events. I am a bit of an ideas person and all this would be achievable with some support.

Maybe a bit more background on me before you draw any conclusions. Firstly my character, I'm a happy, fun loving "go get 'em" person. I cannot sit around and twiddle my thumbs. I love bush walking, camping, driving, boating, woodworking..... really anything outside. My next door neighbours think I should buy a shipping container and a tent since I'm never home except to sleep  Always happy to lend a hand when asked. My professional background is rather varied. I have been in management roles, programming projects, registered communications cabler, and in my final year of a dual trade electrical/instrumentation apprenticeship. I have run an online community group in the Virtual Aviation sector similar to Atlantic Sun with over 150 dedicated members. Sadly though after I passed it on the new owners discontinued it after a short time. I have also just written a website for Inline Hockey Tasmania. If anyone is interested in roller hockey you'll be pleased to know these guys will be hosting the National Competitions right here in Tassie next year. They are currently loading up content but their site will be available in January at http://www.inlinehockeytasmania.org.au

I look forward to hearing from everyone to see what interest sparks.

Cheers

Hiya Chris, and welcome. Sorry I have been a bit slack, but am under a touch of stress at the moment

really looking forward to the info you can give us about the south. I have not spent much time down there, but have enjoyed the little I did. Would love to get back down there soon. Maybe I should pack my tent and sleeping bag and brush the old hitch hiking thumb off. What part of the south are you in?

Was a very nice pano with great lighting. Am looking forward to seeing more of your images. With regards to East Coast photography clubs, I believe there is a Hobart based one as well as one in new Norfolk.

Your mention of roller hockey brought back some memories for me. I played as part of the Tonngabbie team in NSW when I was a kid, Last time I tried putting a set of roller skates on though I certainly realised just how much I had forgotten ROFL Not quite inline skates, but it was a lot of fun.

Looking forward to seeing you around the place, and reading of your travels and experiences.

Hi Mystic,

I am down in Hobart but I do a lot of travelling down to the Huon

I would dare say they there are a few photography clubs but I've stumbled upon this lovely community (Real Tasmania) and it would be nice to unite the community online and offline. I was reading your thread about how it was hard to organise events when everyone is spread so far. So if we split it up a little and work in little clubs and have a big club event annually or something it may be a bit easier. If people are definitely interested I'm on it

That is definitely an idea worth pursuing Chris. I, for one would be very interesting in hearing your thoughts on how it could be made to work.

Not a bad idea at all Chris. I would also be interested in what your thoughts are on the matter.

Well, first off we will need to see how much we can drive it. Maybe if you guys post a sticky topic in the relevant forum to see what people think? Then if it looks like people will like it I'll build a website and get it all happening
