Hi everyone. I am a newbie to the forum. We are a family of 5 and have an old caravan which is towed by a Mitsubishi Delica.

We tend to go to the same couple of camping spots each year; Swansea Caravan Park because the kids love it there as it has a pool and Fortescue Bay because that is my 'happy place'. This year instead of doing the usual jaunt to Fortescue we have decided to go and explore the North West Coast. We were going to stay in a caravan park up there but it was going to cost us $70 per night..OMG!!

So I am hoping you can tell me where some good camping spots are on the North West Coast, preferably not too far up the beaten track and near beaches etc so the kids are happy.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Alida, and welcome. Couple of quick questions... do you need power, and what time of year are you going away?

One suggestion would be Marrawah. See info in this duscussion

Thanks for the welcome!

We are going away in the next month or so. We can survive without power but need a loo and preferably a shower.

I will check out the Marrawah thread, thanks!

Back again. Just talking to the husband and he said he doesn't want to go too far west as we only have 5 nights and are travelling from Hobart. So maybe looking between Launceston and Ulverstone areas. Beauty Point looks great but the caravan park is quite exy.

Thanks! :)

During school holidays many of the campgrounds up that way tend to be quite full. You might like to call the visitor centre at Narwantapu national park. Info about camping and facilities can be found here

If you want to be near the facilities then it's quite a hike to the beach. Last year when we were there unpowered sites were $13.00 a night. There were only 2 of us, not sure if there were extra charges for extra bodies. It's great spot for Wombats and other native animals. There are also many varieties of aquatic birds that can be found on a walk around the lagoons.

There are also a few areas in the North East but they lack facilities.
Some, walk in the rain, others, just get wet.
