I spotted these etchings at LARQ when walking past there one day. LARQ is a gallery in Queenstown.

very arty Shane!
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those that mind, dont matter and those that matter, dont mind!!!
if you come across someone without a smile,.................. give them one of your's....... and watch it grow!
never be mean with a kind word, ........................you may need one yourself one day!
just as I get used to today along comes tomorrow!

Very nice, but questions rise about copyright issues mate

Thanks Dave
Thanks Mystic. He is using these under the building to block wind getting into it. I can go down and see him to see what he has to say. I should have said etching plates...the etchings themselves are in the gallery.

Hi, first post from us.
We've been interested in street art in Hobart and were concerned about the legality of taking pics.
Here are some references from other states that should apply here.
http://4020.net/words/photorights.php
http://www.artslaw.c...raphers-rights/
I've got another reference that deals with photography of public art both static and performance but can't find it. But from memory it said it's almost impossible to infringe copyright using a still camera. In contrast a video of a performance art would violate copyright.
Regarding photography of private property it seems to be OK unless you infringe curtalige, which are parts of a property deemed to be private. If you have to stand on a chair to get a shot over a fence of a Danish Princess that's a No No. If she's walking out the front door it should be ok.
Cheers from TBT

Thanks for the info TBT and welcome. The issue that concerned me was the reproduction of the artwork of another, even though it is not for commercial gain. I know that neither Shane, nor myself, would be happy seeing our works reproduced without permission.
On a more technical and legal side, the owner would need to prove loss of revenue as a result of the reproduction. But it was more of a moral and ethical concern I originally had.

"MONA" in Hobart permits you to take photos but are explicit that they must be for personal use only.
Some, walk in the rain, others, just get wet.
