all simple job's ............................why go to the expense of a licensed builder who will charge you 100 times what the job is worth?

Good point Dave, and especially as this work is to be done in Queenstown, where tradies are in very short supply and very high demand.
The secret to getting what you want, is to want what you need

Hi Dave,

I prefer to have a licensed tradesman as I have had experience with 'handymen' in the past where the results were less than satisfactory. There is also the problem of insurance cover and building permits - if something goes wrong I will not be covered. If I use a tradesman I can also get assistance from their industry association if need be.

If I dont get a response, I will ask Schultz Engineering - they have just done a couple of jobs on my rental property at a very reasonable rate.

P.

you can purchase "liability" insurance for your unlicensed builder or he/she can buy it themselves, you can also ask if he/she has an ABN with a limited construction license

this usually covers the builder and owner of the property to a maximum of $12,000.00 of construction work undertaken!

I was in this business for 20 years combined with my sharpening business!

I won many a contract and made better than wages by coming in under a 1/4 of the quoted price of the "contractor"

for instance your dividing wall is only a non supporting stud and gyprock divider, cost for this should be no more than $500.........judge your licensed builder by this quote.......oh and from that quoted $500 I would make $200 for less than a day's work

simply having a bad experience with one should not tarnish them all! ask around and get a recommended one!
