Trowetta Arch: Two sink holes collapsed leaving this excellent arch. Like many interesting spots in Tasmania unless you have local knowledge you won't find it. OHS rules are forcing the "forgetting" of great locations because they don''t have safety rails and wooden steps.

Having said that I didn't secure the new Sony DSC in its case properly and it fell out. Down a hole. Mrs TBT rushed in and grabbed it back out of the rocky crevice. The aftermarket lens-adapter ring had snapped off, but the camera still works fine and the ring was OK to re-attach. I'm still a bit shaken but, and have got a new, better case for it.

These pics are geo-tagged so you can see exactly where the arch is using Google.

Looking into the sink-hole, it was very dark so not so great for lovely pictures.

From the local Online Access Centre Website...

TROWUTTA ARCH
The Trowutta Arch was formed by the collapse of a cave. The roof fell in leaving a section between two 'sink holes'. The site is not well known and the short walk into the site is through spectacular rain forest. Follow the C218 road through the township of Trowutta. The Arch is approximately 10 km past the Trowutta township. Best to ask the locals for exact directions.

Hi, we've always had trouble with geotagging pics. Not sure if the exif info is being carried across to here or not.

These are the co-ords for about 1/2 way along the track

GPS information: -
GPSLongitude - 145.00 6.00 33.17 (145.109214)
GPSLongitudeRef - E
GPSLatitude - 41.00 4.00 4.72 (41.067978)
GPSLatitudeRef - S

Some GPS's will let you plug them in and give you direction by road to the nearest point. I'm fairly sure they're correct. The road in is very narrow and looks like it goes no-where.

The track starts just about as soon as you get into the rainforest.

PS we've consistently misspelt this as Trowetta not what it should be Trowutta so apologies, especially to those good folk who live there.
