I went out to Lake Burbury yesterday. The surface was like a mirror, it's not often you see that, especially at the time of day I was out there...mid afternoon. I wanted to try some HDR of the lake and here are a few I came up with...

Nice photos, #2 could be out of some Tolkein book, but 3 is my favourite.
On the few occasions we've been there we've always found this area to be eerie (if not downright spooky) do locals feel the same way or is it just us southerners?

I think west coasters take it for granted actually, it's there. They do make comments about the levels, and how low it is, but I haven't heard anyone describe it as eerie or spooky. For myself, I find it quite attractive, at times eerie, especially with it being as low as it is right now. It makes for great photography
