Tunnel at Tunnel (NE Tas). Get in and do this one before it gets closed. This abandoned train tunnel is long, very long, and open to walk through as of last year. (Hard hats required according to the sign)

Never knew about this one Jon. Thanks :) Cool pix, and am curious about what Shane asked above also.

Hi Mystic and Shane,

Re: Closing. We really have no idea. It might still be open in 20 years or it might get closed next year!

The tunnel at Tunnel is special though. The tunnel on the abandoned Sorell-Hobart railway line was never open to the public. In that tunnel, one end was a mushroom farm and a cafe (although not sure if that ever opened) and the other end is a University of Tasmania "Cosmic Ray Lab". They measure those particles that can get through 30+ metres of rock!

Cheers
Jon TBT
