Hi Kathiet,
Welcome to "Real Tasmania" I'm from the Northern end of the state so can't help you much but I believe there are a few backpacker accomodations in Hobart that have really good rates for longer stays. This may help you if your stuck for accomodation straight up and may work out at reasonable price for a short period as you will find parts of Hobart fairly pricey rental wise unless sharing. With any sort luck, one of our Southern members will be able help you out with some advice.
I suggest that maybe you could try an advert in the Tasmanian edition of "Gumtree" @ Gumtree Hobart This one is not that far from the Royal Hobart Hospital about 2 klm and is only recently listed. @ Sun drenched townhouse
You can also check out the local newspaper which is called the Mercury and is online @ House Rentals
All the same, good luck with the move to Tassie and your new job, don't worry, Tassie's great and with the snow on Mt Wellington a lot of the time your gonna feel right at home....

Some, walk in the rain, others, just get wet.

Hiya Kathiet,
Welcome to Real Tas
Unfortunately I am on the west coast so can't really help out much in the way of rental property information. I agree with what cascade has said above. Have you also thought of maybe a caravan park? I use one at Berridale when I visit the east coast. Not too sure about their prices for vans or cabins as I usually have a tent with me. Here is a website if you want to have a look at the info for the park.
As for furniture, it might be worthwhile having a look at some garage sales when you get here, or maybe one of the local vinnies or salvos stores.
If you are ever on the west coast give me a shout, would be nice to meet a fellow member of the site
Enjoy your stay and good luck with the move and job
