We have lots of questions that we need answers too, and would love to meet others around the area that we are looking at living in also would love to share our story over the next year with our move.
We are planning on buying land in the Barrington/Lower Barrington area and building.
We currently have a house that is morgaged to the bank over here, after selling we will have about $80,000 - $100,000 to put towards land. We are hoping that we can purchase land and costs with this and then put a shed on it if we can and live in it for one year, or a caravan within the shed. During this year we would then save up a deposit to get a loan to build the house. We are looking a building a Harkaway Kit Home, something we have always wanted to do since we were married 22yrs ago.
We are moving ourselves over as we have decided to only take four pieces of furniture with us that are special to us and re-purchase things over there as we need them. We have two 4wd's (troopy and discovery) that we will be driving over each with a trailer on the back with all our goods on. So this alone will be a challenge off selling everything off and then the fun of re-purchasing when we arrive.
Currently hubby is in a excellent job with high pay of over $100K per year and we know that he will only probably get a job that will pay half or less than half of this in Tassie but it is a lifestyle change for us not the money side, but we do need this still as we don't have much savings. He is a mechanic and air conditioning mechanic by trade and currently works as a locomotive maintainer over here with a very large firm, which does not work in tassie which is ashame
We both are workers and will be open to any jobs to start with when we arrive and are not choosie so hoping this will help. Even looking at the harvest trail work to start with.
Hubby has already booked in 10 weeks annual leave from December next year when we leave (10-15th) so hoping that he can find a job within this time, then he will give notice, otherwise we may go back into business for our selves or something (have owned our own business before for 14 years) but now really would prefer to work for someone else if we can since we have young children.
We do not know of anyone in Tassie, but all love the quiet country life style over there and want a simpler life, hence the move. We are not greenies as such, but do like looking after our selves and the environment, growing all our own food, savings money by learning to do things new ways, bartering, finding bargins etc...
We love spending time with each other as a family, picnics, drives, outings, gardening, animals, meeting people, working for charities, etc.. so would love to get to know some other families over there before we move if we can and also for the kids to meet other kids and become pen pals in the mean time.
Over here our children attend a private school for the better education that we can get outside the public schools here, but are open to what schools we will send the kids to there. Our oldest son will be 16.5 and will be starting year 10, he is a good learner, quiet and reserve person, but finds school and socializing harder but will always give things a go, He is a hard working in all fields and would like to become a chef when finishing school and doesn't know if he wants to do year 11 and 12 yet. Our oldest daughter will be 14 and will be starting in year 9, she excells at school and makes friends really easy ad would like to become a nurse or doctor when she finishes. We are happy for both of them to attend different schools if they wish, the two youngest we would like to attend the same school. Our son will be 6 and in year 1 and our youngest daughter will be 5 and starting kindy.
Can any one give us some ideas on schools around the Barrington area's, the two oldest are happy to travel to school, they currently catch a bus which takes them 30mins to get to school.
We are also interested in social groups especially for the oldest two. They both attend a church youth group and love it, so that would be something we will be looking for also there. We are of no set religion but are christians in general. Our son is highly into trains and boats, model making and wood work, plus golf. Our daughter is into dance, singing, acting and crafts.
Any help, ideas, suggestions on our move, work there, etc... would really be appreciated.
I am attending to use this forum/topic as a diary of our move on a weekly basis, on what we are doing this end for our move and what we are doing that end for our move to tassie with lots of questions along the way. Would love you to follow and help us on our journey.
We are also coming over for three weeks from the 25th November 2011 to the 15th December 2011 to have a look more into depth on places, schools, councils, work etc.... and for some family time together and would love to drop by and say hi to anyone that would love to meet us.We will be staying at the Port Sorrell Caravan Park whilst we are there camping, come and meet us for dinner one night we would love to have you.
Talk soon. Linda, Gordon - James, Sarah, David and Seanna
