OK, So the hubby and I are wanting to move - strike that - are moving to Tas, soon, hopefully.
I'm from farming background, and wish to enjoy a true rural & largely self-sufficient lifestyle. to do this (since we're not vegans!) we will be requiring to either bring with us, or acquire once landed, a certain amount of livestock...
what I'm hoping for with this list is a "yes you can buy here" or "yes you can bring with you" or "no, forget it, it stays on the mainland" sort of thing....
Cattle - the Tas climate makes me want to keep Aberdeen Angus or Highland cattle for beef, and a couple of Jerseys for milking. I'd really like to bring Betty, my favourite girl from here in Qld.
Pigs - I'm a fan of Large Blacks or Tamworth pigs, will settle for Duroc in a pinch, don't like Galloways or Large Whites.
Turkeys - I have American Bronze's here, and even in Qld they're hard to come by. I'd love to keep the same...
Chickens - now i know there will be chooks, the breeds i keep are coronation/light sussex and Croad Langshans (big birds for table and eggs, both heritage breeds) and personally, i'd want to bring my own birds if we can?
Ducks - we breed pied muscovies, they're again a large, table bird, that lays eggs fantastic for baking. i'd also like geese (since we're talking waterfowl) if anyone knows what varieties you have on the island? Mussies are special in that they can not produce fertile offspring with mallard types of duck (pretty much everything else) they will only crossbreed mules.
Dogs - I have two purebred Great Danes, they're dual registered (council & CCCQ) and show winning girls, but that aside they're my furkids, I was there when they were born, and I won't leave them behind. please tell me i can bring them...?
Sheep/goats - I'd be very interested in what breeds there are in Tassie. I've raised Boer goats for the table before (seeing a pattern lol) and keep a sheep as an experiment once, (didn't like her, sold her on) and would likely try again, given the property to do so.
any info on the above from knowledgeable persons would be greatly appreciated!!

For the majority of this stuff you would be best to contact DPIW direct, but this page will be of help. It does state that for domestic animals and livestock there are conditions, but poultry is fine.
I also noticed this website that lists poultry for sale in Tasmania, and the ads there will give you a good idea of breeds available.
I know we do have highland and aberdeen angus cattle down here.
The big No NO's are dirt and plants. Coming from a property you will need to clean all dirt from boots, tools, etc.
A couple of numbers that would help you..
