The following photos were taken along a track at Melaleuca, Tasmania.

Personaly, I think it's a disgrace that an area of wilderness can be freely littered with things that don't belong there in the name of "ART" and at great expense to the taxpayer. If I had done the same thing off my own back without any funding or permission, I would most likely be in gaol.

As this area is limited to only those people that can afford to fly or sail in or those ardent and fit enough to walk in, then I consider it a gross missuse of our tax dollars. Especially when there never seems to be any money to improve Education or Hospital services.

It would be interesting to hear what our "Green" politician's had to say about it when it was proposed, although I have been assured by word of mouth, that the fly-in tourists believe it's absolutly wonderful.

I will leave you the viewer to form your own opinion.

Since posting I found this link to a Media release.

Sounds a bit too friendly for me.... Brighton Overpass payoff perhaps.... Bit cynical I know... Just my opinion... Perhaps I should ignite a flag in protest.........
Some, walk in the rain, others, just get wet.

I did remember hearing something about the bark canoe (first image) some time back, but had no idea of the extent of this construction. As you say, very few people would ever see this, and I imagine it did not come at any small expense. Also it seems to have been covered by federal funding, though given the location, the expense would have been very high. I wonder if they were required to do a land survey to ascertain any aboriginal significant items before they went ahead with this?

Let's not get into the flag burning/spitting incident, which made my blood boil. If anyone had done that to one of their flags we would never hear the end of it.....

I love art, but this seems like such a waste! This state is in a very sad state, and money needs to be allocated cautiously..... these rusty metal items that stand around the place are really starting to stick in the craw... don't mean to offend.. but with all the unemployed in this state.. surely the money could have been more wisely used!
