Rosebery is situated, basically, in the gateway to the west coast, at the base of Mt Black, with Mt Murchison, and Mt Read flanking on the south and western sides. A glorious little valley carved out through a history of mining, that has managed to avoid destroying the landscape and scenic beauty.
Plenty of great little paths to wander through within the town itself, and only a few minutes down the road is Montezuma Falls, the highest single drop fall in Tasmania. The walk down to the falls follows an old, abandoned rail track through some beautiful rainforest along the edges of the Ring River.
A little further down the road is a rough one way track leading off the Murchison Highway, simply marked "Scenic Drive". No great fanfare, (that's just the way we are here in the west), but a spectacular road, easily handled by the family car (leave your long vans behind), twists its way through magnificent forests filled with majestic tree ferns.
There is much more to do whilst based at Rosebery, explore the fantastic views from the top of Mt Read or Mt Murchison, the lakes of the area, the hidden waterfalls and rainforests, and maybe even spot the resident platypus in the Stitt River. We call it home, and will be exploring it much further over the coming years.
