Be aware that entry to National Parks in Tasmania is not free. Reserves, forests, and other such places have no fees, but the National Parks do.

Currently these fees are:
  • Daily pass - vehicle (up to 8 people) = $22 - Individual = $11
  • Holiday (up to 8 weeks) - vehicle (up to 8 people) = $56 - Individual = $28
  • Annual and two year passes are available also.
Further details and online application forms can be found at http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/natparks/current_fees.html

Passes can be obtained at any Services Tasmania office (most major towns, click this link for an alphabetical listing of all office locations) or at parks themselves. Please be aware that some parks are not always manned and only have self registration facilities. Where this is the case you will only be able to purchase a single day pass. If you are spending any time traveling you are well advised to purchase the Holiday, or annual pass as these provide the best value.

one of the first things I did when i came back to live was get a 2 year pass, it means I can wander off the beaten track when ever i like with out the hassle on being booked by a Parks ranger for not having a pass, well worth just a few dollars to invest in.

Any idea as to the reason of these passes?

All its doing is allowing hoons to pay to tear up the place....

Though I spose it is injecting money into wildlife conservation.

Actually it helps stop the hoons tearing the places up. Tas parks are well maintained by NPWS officers, and when a complaint is received by them, they act, as we have found out. The money is used to create walking trails, maintain existing trails, and generally to build better facilities for visitors to the parks.

I happily pay my parks fees every year, and look forward to getting more involved in voluntary wok during the coming year to help make our parks & reserves even better.

If anyone has ever visited a pit toilet in NSW, and then visited one here, they would gladly hand over their money ten times over.

Tasmanian parks & wildlife do a fantastic job. they deserve to be credited as heroes of our state.
