Hi All,
I just found these forums via a link posted at Bushwalk Tasmania (another forums site for discussion of all things bushwalking in Tasmania... and elsewhere, run by... me!). After discussion with the site admin here, we've decided that the two forums could be complimentary to each other and refer members to each other depending on their particular areas of interest.
So if you're interested in bushwalking, I suggest you check out the Bushwalk Tasmania forums as well! :-)

Thanks I will have a look,
I must say I went to a bush walking meeting in launceston late last year I came home full of interest and enthusiasum, only to check out their main web page and go to one more meeting to find there was no program for the unfit beguinners like me
i would love to get out there and have a go but where do I start ?

I know the feeling Sim, we are not exactly fit ourselves. Have you seen the Parks & Wildlife publication "60 Great Short Walks"? Virtually everything in there can be handled by 99% of people, and there are some excellent locations.
You can check it out online at http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/recreation/shortwalks/ You can also download the pdf version from that page.

Hi Sim... as Anna said there's some good resources for easy/starter walks on the Parks department website (and also on the Bushwalk Tasmania website). You can also ask questions directly on the Bushwalk Tasmania website (complete newbie questions are welcome), and there's even a spot there for finding walking companions. There's plenty of other members who like to walk slowly (some of them because of fitness, others because they like to take lots of photos
Are you a long-time Tasmanian? What kind of walks are you interested in? Day walks, overnighters, or extended walks? I may be able to come up with some ideas for you here. I can also point you to specific information, if you have any specific questions.
I also love taking newbie's walking myself. Three reasons why: 1. I get to go walking myself; 2. I get to walk with people who I don't have to struggle to keep up with; 3. I get to experience (second hand) the excitement of new walkers seeing and doing new things they've never seen or done before.
