Corinna:A lovely little town settled on the banks of The Pieman River on Tasmanias West Coast
right on the western end of the Western Explorer Road
It is nested right in the midle of one of the worlds best rain forrests
there is bush walks, river cruses ,gr8 trout fishing in the river and many more things to do
corrina_huts.JPG
these are some of the newly built cabins built for accomadation
there is also backpackers and campsites with a gr8 undercover BBQ area
below is some of the great sites you will see down the river on the Arcadia2(the cruse boat) a lovely old boat that once use to be a naval boat way back in times gone by

along_the_pieman_river.JPG
these falls are so well hidden you can hear them well before you see them
along_the_pieman1.JPG
an old huon Pine tree that has fallen and is now regenerating from its base
and will come back to its former glore
devils_gate_on_the_pieman.JPG
Devils Gates where the Pieman River power station was once to go
(only thanks to the consevational movments in the 70's put a stop to it )
now we have the Reece power station much further upstreem

Pieman Heads one of the nasty little river entrances on the west coast

The Arcadia(She has had an overhaul since this pic was taken and now has a canopy over the rear deck)
This is a post that will grow with time as it goes by

Thank you Coop. Very pretty place. Love your images and the information you gave about the place as well. Well done. Have to get back down there and have another look at it.

Where was the waterfall shot taken and can we walk to it?

That river entrance may not look so wild to some, but this sign at Corrina tells the story well...

corrina_sign.jpg

I have a few other shot of Corrina as well and will add those later today.

Great stuff Coop, thank you.

At Corrina, there is a short trail called the Huon Pine Track. Starts at the main carpark where the ferry is located. About 15 minutes down the track you will see this tree, a beautiful old Huon Pine.

The First Pic was taken in Jan 06, of the Pieman Heads as the Arcadia was starting its return Journey back to Corinna.
The Second one was taken in Dec 07, of the Camping Ground near at Corinna, (that is the toilet block in the background). The ground here was quite soft however about 2 inches down it hit hard rock, so pegging down your tent is hard!, luckily its quite sheltered.

Great shots Nett, and yet another place to add to the growing list of places where rocks replace tent pegs wink.gif

If you are approaching Corrina from the Zeehan end, or planning on going through to Zeehan, the Pieman will take you across the river for $20 (bikes $10 and cars with vans are more, but maximum overall length of 9 metres). If your vehicle is longer than the limit you will have to drive up through Savage River and Waratah.

Cool shots Nett. Would love to get down and have a look at the heads. The camping ground looks flat, shame about the rock.

even though its rock, its still quite comfortable, the 2 inches of moss and grass cushion it well, the problem with the rocks is not being able to fully secure the tent. Annas idea with the Rocks would fix that perfectly though I think.

Check out our description of Butlers Gorge Nett. Rockiest place we ever camped, but also, and very surprisingly, one of the most comfy. You could not even get the pegs in an inch there, and we will not discuss the difficulty in digging a pit LOL. But I think that location is fantastic.

Also found that further up the explorer, at Lindsay River, only about 2 inches of ground for the pegs before bedrock. Usually in that case their are plenty of rocks to be found, and if you look carefully at the pic of our campsite at Butlers Gorge, you will see how we had the ropes anchored by rocks. It works well, and if worst comes to worst, big rocks in each corner of the tent are good.
