Hi what a great idea this is thank you for creating it, I love the idea of getting out and enjoying Tasmania and I know this will prompt me well in the middle of winter to still get out the door and see new places ,

I like to make post cards , I really like the landscape style of photography and postcards lend them self well to what I wish to do so every week for my 52 weeks I will step outside my door and bring you a new postcard image to share from somewhere in Tasmania a place I have been and enjoyed.

So for my first week a post card that I decided to go across town to a place in Launceston in the suburb of Riverside to a part of the Tamar River called Tail Race , its where the drain from Trevallyn Dam runs into the Tamar River ,
Quite often you will find a mix of bird life from Pelicans, Swans , Ducks and Seagulls also there is a boat ramp a children's park and a landscaped walking track for you to enjoy , this shot I took for my postcard it taken at high tide looking out into the Tamar River and across with a few quiet boats moored up in the tail race on a nice sunny Saturday, It makes a great place for a picnic and wander around in Launceston.

Nice postcard Sim, I like the idea of creating a new postcard each week. Good thinking, and I am really looking forward to seeing the places you discover, esepcially with your new tent. smile.gif

Week 2 already here wow time flys when having fun.

This week I went for a wander out to a place i saw about 4 years ago and have been half looking for ever since , but yesterday i had time to kill and needed to do some driving so I went in search of a Lake , all I could remember is that is was somewhere near Westbury and it had a number in its name but what number I could not remember,
I had my dementia client with me as he was restless so I took him for a drive that always calms him down, little did he realise we were on a big adventure into the unknown !
we drove into the town on Westbury and there just on the way out was the sign to Four Springs Lake woohooo so off we headed in that direction, to get there you have to drive over to the small town of selbourne and then down Four springs Road which truns into a gravel road, my poor Kia Rio must think I wish it was a 4 x4 the amount of times we go off road driving tongue.gif

So anyway we drove about 20 k's out of Westbury down a nice little bumpy road with a few potholes then spread out in front of us was this lovely big Lake stuck in the middle of no where , Im not sure if it is owned by Foresry Tas but they do have a closed boom gate on one road leading down to the lake , so I wouldnt be surprised if its a join venture with Meander Council.

once down at the Lake you can walk out onto a little jetty past butterflys , Dragonflys and many ofther water and earth bugs the place was alive with flying and jumping things a photographers heaven with a macro lense , as we walked out onto the Jetty a little metalic Dragonfly even landed on my friends head , I had to shoo it away while my trigger fingers itched to take its photo,

In the lake i could see a few small fresh water tiny fish swimming around and i did see one little Trout, we aslo saw swans and a few wood ducks out on the lake plus hear cockatoos calling to each other.
Unfortunatly this is only a day use area no camping and there is a lovely big sign clearly telling you about the fishing regulations , see under postcard shot .

Looks like a beautiful spot Sim. Great shots and story to go with it. Hope the client didn't get freaked by the dragon fly.

This week saw me out and about on Wednesday and in my travels i ended up at Brushy Lagoon , never heard of it ? i dont think many people have its managed by Forestry Tasmania and is a fairly large inland Lagoon well know by Tasmanian trout fisherman, now I must say I came head to head almost with a log truck on this track so its one of those places you must be wide awake and not driving to fast, its a 10k drive down a gravel road after you take the turn of to Birralee on the frankford Highway, once there I found it to be a rather untidy place used campfires and mess on the ground but for the Lagoon itself pleasing on the eyes, I didnt see much bird life at all and only a few Dragonflies buzzing around , but what I did see was a large amount of small fish in the water not sure what kind they were not Trout but plenty there, Ive looked on the Fishing web site and it says the species found here are Atlantic Salmon, Brook Rainbow and Brown Trout, so who knows what little fishes I saw that day ..

Brushy lagoon looks nice Sim, well found. Campfires means people have been camping there, might have to go take a closer look ourselves. Nice shot too.

week 4 is here and nearly gone already
This week has seen me traveling all over the place up and down this wonderful state of Tasmania , but still I am drawn back to the wonderful North of the Island and the beautiful Tamar Valley , while wandering along the scenic Rosevears road along the Tamar river we stopped at the Rosevears Tavern across from Windermere on the other bank of the river and I was struck by the beautiful colours in the reflections so that is this weeks photo

This week saw me traveling out to Brumbys Creek near Cressy , still just out of Launceston , we were driving along the gravel road beside the creek when I saw a small fish jump out of the water so I pulled up and walked out to take a couple of photos , unfortunately i missed the jumping fish I have no doubt it was a trout as after all this is one of the main areas the trout clubs have days out and Cressy does have a giant trout in its main street as well as the street signs all being in the shape of a fish!

I decided not to turn this shot into a smaller postcard shot as I just couldn't bring myself to crop those wonderful reflections in the water away or the drying grasses on the river bank.
Just another beautiful place of Tasmania for us to all enjoy .

This week in my week 6 pf 52 weeks I didnt go anywhere much , am busy saving for my special camping trip and its been a busy work week etc , not only that this weekend I did the Relay for life to raise funds to support Cancer suffers , so on Saturday and Sunday I was a bit busy walking around and around and around the oval at least 14k's worth til my little toes would walk no more , so that's what my 52 week photo is about.

Typical, with all the lovely places to go for a walk in Tasmania, you walk round in circles... get a compass Sim LMAO.gif

Well done with your efforts to raise funds though.

Thanks Anna and Margie for your comments on my last shot, I must admit I'm in no hurry to go walking around there again , in fact I think I can wait another year !

Week 7 of my 52 weeks saw me heading down to The Low Head Georgetown area, By the time we got down there the weather had decided no more sunshine and it was time for a bit of wind and rain to change things up a bit, so I was only able to get out of the car a small amount of time, plus I had my usual once a week passenger with me so I couldn't go far,

This shot was taken standing on a causeway where the Low Head Pilot station is a few boats moored safely out of the rough weather we had, I liked the different colours of the water and sky so standing against a fence to stop the wind from pushing me to close to the edge as I took this shot near the mouth to the Tamar river ,

cant wait for next weeks photo as I will be in a totally new part of Tasmania for me , with the wonderful company of the 2 administrators of this fantastic site smile.gif
