Over the past few days, my fiance & I have been inspecting potential wedding venues. We visited Strathmore yesterday, and have made up our minds.

Strathmore is about 10-15 minutes drive south of Evandale, just down the road from the higher-profile (and somewhat over-rated!) Clarendon, run by the National Trust. The property isn't open to the general public, however it is popular as a wedding venue.

Strathmore was founded in 1828, and has been in private hands since. In my opinion, this is probably what has saved this property from being a little done-to-death like similar northern properties such as Entally, Clarendon, Brickendon, and Woolmers (all pretty, but all a bit impersonal). It has a nicely lived-in feel, and the owners Sue & Graham do a superb job keeping the property in such a fine state.

Very nice.
