No... this is not the next sequel to Fieval goes west. This is the adventure of Sim, a shy girl from the north of Tassie who came to the west coast for the weekend.

We had been in the planning stages of the trip for a while. It actually started with a call to photographers on another site to go for a meet at Lake St Clair. There didn't seem to be any takers so we talked to Sim and planned a weekend camping trip of the West coast.

Wednesday 26th March 2008.

Anna and I were chatting with Sim in the chat room and she said, "Ummmm...I have been thinking." I thought, "Uh oh she has decided not to come, she's chickening out."? It took her a while to type what she was thinking, but basically she wanted to come down earlier than expected, which was cool with us.

Thursday 27th March 2008.

We were up early, I really do hate early mornings. There were still a few things we needed to do before Sim arrived that afternoon. I was feeling excited and a little apprehensive. I'm a pretty shy person myself but I do like meeting people, sorta.

After all the work was done we settled back and waited. Every time we heard a car approaching we looked out the window to see if she had arrived, and this was from about 10 am, LOL.

The day seemed to pass very slowly. Then I remembered we needed a couple of things from the shop to take camping with us. We had told Sim that we were going to leave the car parked out the front so she could know where our house was. I did what I had to at the shop and came back as quickly as possible.

As I was coming around the corner to home I saw a car driving slowly and the driver seemed to be looking for something. "Is this Sim?" I thought. She saw Jessica and sped up.

After the meet and greet, which took about half an hour, we jumped in Jessica and showed Sim the sights of Rosebery. First we went to Stitt Falls. There had been a fair bit of rain so there was a lot of water going over them. We were going to take her to the T.M.E historical site but instead we took her to the Rosebery Scenic Drive.

The scenic drive is located on the highway, between Rosebery and the turnoff to Zeehan. It is not very well sign posted so you have to keep an eye out for it. It is a track which is not very wide and has a few potholes in it. It is also a one way road and you shouldn't drive vans, trucks or buses on it. The scenery though in awesome. Tall stands of trees, with lots of thick, lush undergrowth. The man ferns are large here and there are lots of small mosses and mushrooms which can be photographed.

We stopped to take some images. I was shooting some mushrooms in the middle of the track when I heard a car coming. This is the first time that another vehicle has come along the track when we were there. Anna found a spot to pull off, this is very difficult on this road, and let the people pass. After they had passed Anna tried to get the car back on the track. The tires just seemed to spin in the mossy ground. She was getting closer and closer to the edge. She asked Sim and me to put a bit of weight on the back of the car to give her a bit of traction. That worked and I was covered in mud. Now the excitement was over we moved on and made a couple of other stops. I was hoping that no other cars would come along.

Finally we reached the highway once more. We headed back towards Rosebery. When we reached the site of the Renison Bell pub we stopped once more to show Sim. There were some beautiful lichens on trees and also on the foundations. Sim found some worms that I have never seen before. Yellow ones, they really stood out in this dark, wet area.

The afternoon was putting on a nice sunset and it lit up Mount Murchison nicely. I just couldn't help myself; I had to get some shots.

After dinner we went to Zeehan. We thought that if we took Sim to introduce her to the Zeehan connection that night we could have the full day on Saturday to do what we wanted. Waiting for us at Nett's place were all the members of the forum from Zeehan, except one. Nett had made a cheesecake, which was delicious. Thanks Nett.

We talked for a bit and patted the dogs and then left reasonably early so we could get an early start the next morning.

More images can be seen of the trip in the gallery.
