I got this shot of Cape Sorrell Lighthouse on Saturday when we went to Trial Harbour. It was taken on full zoom from the scenic tip out there smile.gif This is the first time that O can remember seeing this lighthouse from here...it is about 50km from where the shot was taken...just goes to show how far you can see on a clear day smile.gif

When posted the first 2 photos have been compressed in height.
The 3rd photo has been compressed in width.
hence the slightly weird looking pics.

Very nice shots Cascade. Strange that those first three you posted came out square as the site generally reduces images for display to 600px on the longest side with the other side reduced proportionally, (as it was with your last shots).

If you click on the image so it loads in the browser window they revert to the right shape.
I might try an edit and repost and see what happens.

Thanks for the ecouraging comments. As mentioned before I tend to be super critical of my own photo's.

PS. Did the edit and no change.

Strange, I think it might be because the originals are smaller than 600px.

Know what you mean about being overly critical on your own shots.I reject heaps that others like coz I think they are faulty.

Thanks Mystic,
Just to test that I'll resize them to a larger size, re-post and see what happens.
That will probably indicate there is a minimum size image for posts if they display OK.

Thanks, be interested to see the result. I set the thumbnails inside posts to a decent size for a better viewing experience. I might be biting me on the bum here, but do not plan on changing it now LOL

Very nice shots Cascade. I would have replied earlier but my head has been in the books all day. I also know about being critical with your shots. I am quite reluctant these days to put too many shots on display because I think there are too many faults with the shot.

well I haven't seen any shots that I would regard as being ratty, I just point and shoot with all my gear on auto, too damn scared of playing with my settings in case i cant get them back again, a lot of the places we go costs us thousands of dollars and months of travel to get there and back then to have stuffed up piccys would reduce me to tears i think, you blokes overawe me with your knowledge, I came from the box brownie era, what comes out is what was there, you fellers just keep posting em and they will be fine, all good from this side of the ditch, I love what I see Posted Image

Apreciate the comments Dave, although I think I came along a little before your time.... Ivé made and used pinhole cameras, suprising how a tiny little bit of furriness around the apperture hole can make everything fuzzy. Posted Image

The old box Brownie was a luxury, it even used film that could be developed and then used to get multiple prints. LOL

Heck, if some of those old guys could see where photography has gone they wouldn't believe it possible. But interestingly enough the basic principals and skills have changed little.

I use auto mode to take the first picture prior to setting about trying to improve or even screw up what I am photographing.

The automation allows everyone to achieve some spectacular photo's and I admit my camera is always left in the sports mode auto setting when I put it away. You never know what may present itself for a quick pic.

I have heard that many photographer start with an auto shot. Me I think at the moment am getting over a model of camera that was ok, but I am enjoying the luxury of using all the settings so I do. There's still so much about the Pentax I don't know but I'll get around to fiddling with all the settings eventually.

Dave, just do what is good for you mate.

Wow! I've just had a stroll through this topic as I'm a lighthouse junkie and have I found some beautiful images. Don't know where to start. I have only visited three Tassie LH's and that was in my pre-digital days. I must get going again with my trusty DSLR. I drove up to the Eddystone Light some years back in my lovely old 4x4. Don't think I'd try it in my campervan. Anyone got any up to date info on that road?

yep I gotta admit that I'm a "lighthouse junkie" as well, cant help but wonder about all the shipwrecks and storms, the gallantry and the bravery and hardships that were played out over time, most were in very grim treacherous waters
