This forum is for discussing the walks outlined in the Parks & Wildlife publication 60 Great Short Walks. Please do not create topics here that do not relate directly to those walks. If you have a question about any of the walkis, and there is no existing post about it, ask your question in the Questions & Possible Answers on things Tasmanian forum.

When creating a topic here, please make certain that the walk you are about to describe has not already been discussed. If it has, add your description to the existing topic rather than start a new one.

To keep things ordered please use the walk number and title as is published in the Parks & Wildlife publication.

The main internet entry for this publication can be found here and the publication can be downloaded in pdf format here

The booklet contains all the info you need to find out how to get there, and basic info about level of difficulty, etc of the walk. This forum is to allow us to share personal experiences of this walk and expand on the basic information provided. If you have any photogrpahs that you have taken along these walks, please add them to your description.

Hopefully we can build a detailed database of all the great walks covered in this booklet.

Below is a list of all the walks contained within the booklet. The walks that have been struck through are ones that a discussion has been started on.

Just as a quick aside, PWS, Forestry Tas, Tourism Tas & the Hydro are currently reviewing the make up of the Great Short Walks. Some are likely to be de-listed & exchanged with newbies. However, they started this review in 2006 and nothing seems to have changed on the ground so far!

Having said that, I like the idea of this forum...I look forward to seeing what turns up here!

Thanks for the info Wayne, it will be interesting to see what changes are made, if they ever do materialise.

Glad you like the idea, Margie & I had been discussing creating it for a while, and it may help motivate us to get out to do more of these interesting walks, hopefully motivate others too. I am certain that many of our visitors would have done at least a couple of the walks here and it would definitely be a great thing if we can motivate them to discuss their experiences and thoughts.

We have done around 8 or 9 of these walks at various times and will post details of our thoughts as we remember where the photo's are hiding and dig them out.

The link to the PDF seems to be broken - no big deal - the first referenced page has a link that works.

Excellent idea for a topic, and even better contributions. The first hand experiences + great photos are a real boon to anyone like me looking to do a bit of a "flying tour" of the "real" Tazzie. Thanks.
