Right at the start of the walk is a beautiful little cascading waterfall, that can be easily viewed from the bridge.
The walk is very easy and suitable for all ages. The sign at the start says it is wheelchair accessible and warns of steps at the end of the walk, but does not advise that there is a section after crossing the creek that contains a number of upward steps. These are well spaced though and should not be difficult to negotiate with a wheelchair. There are a number of cute little "tunnels" with interpretive artwork on the walls that have been created along this track to entertain and educate children.
The walk is about a 30 minute circuit following the cascading creek, and will take you through some beautiful old growth rainforest. Keep your eyes open for pademelons, wallabies, wombats, and a huge variety of bird life as you wander through this beautiful section of the park.
If you are observant you will notice a number of "little things" that are quite interesting , such as this small flow of water that goes under the boardwalk and then dissapears underground by flowing into a small hole in the ground.
The creek and surrounding lush vegetation also provide many beautiful views and scenes as you wander through.
The boardwalk through here is well maintained and coated with a layer of chicken wire to give extra grip during periods of snow and ice. Be careful taking this track early on winter mornings though, as with most tracks throughout this region, it could be quite slippery.
Once you cross the creek and start your return journey back down the other aisde, keep your eyes open for the numerous wombat burrows that will be seen here. If you are lucky you may find a wombat or two grazing.
As with any rainfoest walk, you are also likely to spot a number of mushrooms and other fungus growing around the place. We spotted a unique kind of fungus, that we called "orange blobs" growing on a tree beside the path.
At the end of this track you find signs pointing you towards a few other walks further up the rainforest, or you can return back to the visitors centre. The track leads to the rear of the Cradle Mt Chalet and spa, and is a touch confusing as to where you head, but go around the buildings, through the car park and follow the road right. Just before you return to the road, you will notice the sign pointing you back on the track leading down to the bridge. If you are in a wheelchair you would be best advised to follow the road as there are a number of stairs leading down to the footpath across the bridge here.
This is a lovely short wander through some gorgeous rainforest, and easily handled by all ages and fitness levels. Well worth the time to take this little escape.
