Day 5 Tasmanian holiday

Left Ross at 8am.The km reading 18558. We had a very comfortable stay in The Ross Motel. The weather is looking great and we are contemplating going up Mt Wellington if the cloud level permits.

We turned off to Interlaken because we missed it on the way up to Deloraine. I wished I had researched this place before we went there. A very layback place out in the bush, only one house that we could see. A dirt road to get there a lake and boat ramp surrounded by little shacks for camp accommodation the Km reading is 18604km. Next stop was Oatlands, nice little town with some beautiful buildings. Looked around the Carrington Mill, very interesting. Headed off down through Bridgenorth and Glenorchy to Mt. Wellington. As they say if it?s a good day do it.

We reached the summit, 18740km. The top of the mountain was spectacular. I am so pleased that we got to see it. I have never been so cold in my life before and I was very pleased that I had extra coats in the car I ended up wearing two jackets and a coat, a scarf around my head and gloves and I was still freezing. It was a real experience and very exhilarating. Scott and Mawson turned back.

Great views of Hobart and surrounds.

After the mountain we headed south of Hobart into Kingston Beach. This was a lovely little beach side town, we then headed for Mt Nelson, a signal station with a lookout that is well worth doing.

We then headed for Kettering. Arrived at Kettering around 5.30 we went down to the wharf and had a look around. We decided that we should take the accommodation in the local pub, but the publican recommended a place that was more suitable and we ended up in Cockle Creek Chalets. Very nice self contained units with everything you could want. A wonderful and well deserved hour or so in the huge spar with a glass of wine and the feeling is good. A home cooked meal (with Boags in hand) on our veranda BBQ, of local lamb chops and steak. Totally relaxed we had a very comfortable night sleep. We have decided to spend another night here as we were going the Bruny Island in the morning and we know that we would be arriving back late.

Sounds like you were having a great time, and seeing some of the best parts on offer.

Your tale of the Wellington experience reminds me of the first time we drove up there. It was so cold that we had to turn the car heater down after hearing a loud cracking noise come from the windscreen. Luckily it did not shatter. When we got to the top it was absolutely freezing with about an inch thick layer of ice on anything that was not moving and snow all around. Totally freezing, but absolutely beautiful at the same time.

You really got around. Mt Wellington is beautiful and I always look forward to going there when we are in Hobart.

Did you get to the cafe at Mt Nelson? They serve the best cappucinos in Hobart, just my opinion.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

We saw the Cafe but didn't go there as we had just had Fish & Chips at Kingston Beach. From what I have heard the Cafe sounds like the best option. The F&C were just ok.

By the way don't go looking for Cockle Creek Chalets it should have been Oyster Cove Chalets. Can't even blame the Boags. Must have been in a hurry to get to the club to watch Qld flog NSW in the State of Origin.Wish I had my camera to get a few shots of the NSW supporters faces. Priceless. Could have won the photo comp!

Thanks for that correction. I was a bit confused and wracking my brains for any memories of anything like that in the Cockle Creek area. As for the game, watched it myself, and could not believe how poorly the cockroaches played on the night.
