Monday

Day 6 of our Tasmanian holiday

Hot breakfast of bacon & eggs, scrambled eggs toast cereals and juice and we are off. The km reading is 18850. We are heading for the 9.30am barge leaving from Kettering, going to Bruny Island. The weather is beautiful the sun is shining and we are lucky to be blest with such good weather. The ferry master jokingly(well we thought he was) tells us to enjoy the sunshine while we can.

We embarked from the barge at Roberts Point and from there we travelled to Dennes Point which is the Northern most point of the Island. Great views back to the mainland, the Tasmanian one that is. The weather has turned in a blink of an eye and I now know what the ferry master meant. This is Tasmania. The weather is bleak and drizzly and at times very wet .

We went through Bligh Point to Killora that area was beautiful. As we neared the Great Bay boat ramp we saw a sign for freshly shucked oysters and just had to sample them and we were pleased that we did they were wonderful big juicy succulent fresh oysters and only $10.00 a dozen.(Take your own salt). We went through Adventure Bay and stopped and looked around the Bligh Museum and we found this to be very informative. We went on to Captain Cooks landing place then doubled back to Bligh?s Rocks then along Coolangatta Road. There are two lookouts along here, one overlooking the Neck and one overlooking Cloudy Bay. Unfortunately the weather was against us for good photos but we could still see enough to satisfy us. We took Cloudy Bay Rd to Whale Bone Point. Then back through Lunawanna which was a very pretty place, we were heading for Cape Bruny.

We travelled on to view the Cape Bruny Lighthouse, this was spectacular, the wind was so strong that it was actually lifting me off my feet and pushing me along. The view was amazing and made it all worth the while. It is always exhilarating to be up so high and the wind blowing in your face it really makes you feel alive. Back through Lunawanna and Alonnah to view the neck (really great views) then back to the barge where we tried out some magnificent local homemade fudge and coffee while we were waiting for the barge. If you are short on time I would leave out Dennes Point & Whalebone Point.

Back at Kettering we brought some fresh fish off one of the boats and we fuelled up$1.52 a litre. It is now 5pm. It is time to head back to our wonderful accommodation at The Oyster Cove Chalet. We are greeted by our wonderful host who assures us that our comfort has been attended to, the heating is on for our arrival home and the towels have been replenished. Time to relax cook our fresh fish enjoy a spar and get ready for tomorrow.

Funny you should bring that up. With only one of us being a map reader I had to memorise a lot of the directions which got out of order every now and then. But Coolangatta Road locked in very well. We were in Coolangatta last weekend for the Wintersun as it is just a short drive from the unit. It was a very big W/E with Wintersun, the greenback fishing comp at Cabarita Beach and the V8 super boats at round Mountain.
