Day 8 Tasmanian holiday
We left the Dover Hotel at 8am after a nice breakfast. We have had a nice stay and we are still trying to get over the huge meal that we were given last night, it really was something. We are heading toward the Nth West towards Strahan. The km reading is 19353. We drove through Huonville at 8.55am km 19400 and we went through the outskirts of Hobart at 10am km 19440. We stopped and had a look at the Apple Heritage Museum and we looked through the gift shop and sampled some local apple products (juice chutney, jams cider) We bought a jacket and a shirt our, momentums of Tasmania. We then drove through to New Norfolk . We stopped at the Oust House at New Norfolk which is a hop?s museum and cafe. We had yummy chocolate & banana crepes and coffee we left there at 11.20 am km reading 19482. There was a sign as we left New Norfolk which said to keep left of the river to head to the salmon ponds which was at odds to a tourist map we had saying we should go through Plenty. After going down this road twice and seeing no further signs to the ponds we went through Plenty to venture on to the salmon Ponds. There was an entry fee and then it was $2 for a cup full of food. For the fish that is. It was quite an experience trying to get photos of the trout but judging by our photos we did better than we expected. We left the Salmon Ponds at 1.25 km 19522. We then ventured on to Russell Falls. The falls were very nice but a little disappointing that most of the tracks were closed for repairs. It would be great to see these falls with a full head of steam. There are some massive trees to be seen here but no Platypus. There is one hollow tree along the track that has been cut down and you can stand inside it. We saw and photographed a couple of Pademelons. It looked as though it was a mother and her baby it was lovely to see the mother protecting her young one. We left them in peace.
We are on our way to Strathgordon. I found this area to be the prettiest yet I was in awe of the scenery that went from the colourful autumn tones of Winery estates and Hops farms and orchids to the contrasting colours of the surrounding rivers encased by the majesty of the mountain ranges. The reflection off the calm lakes would be a photographers dream.
I was amazed by the beauty and the grandeur. We arrived at Lake Pedder Chalet at 5.30pm and we quickly settled into very comfortable accommodation which provided a beautiful view of the lake and surrounding mountains. Another wonderful meal and a well earned rest. Another awesome day completed.
