This is another majestic walk. More strenuous than the Dove Lake Circuit, it is also more rewarding. This walk takes you past two lakes and one magically mountain tarn (pond), as well as through an unbelievably beautiful rainforest gully complete with waterfalls and even over high ridges with sweeping views of the valleys below. The walk is excellently signposted, but there are some sticky bits. The start of the walk, from Waldheim, heads out over button grass plains, over a small rivulet, and then to a junction. You can go left, towards Dove Lake, or right, towards the waterfall and Crater Lake. As a circuit, you'll end up on the left hand route regardless. This section has boards on it, but it has been neglected, and as a result is very rough, and people will have to take care to avoid tripping, especially with children. The rest of the walk is over good ground, except for one muddy section on a ridge crossing directly above Wombat Pool. There are duck boards under the mud, and you can find them if you sort of push around with your foot.

This is a trail that you definitely need proper footwear on- I saw plenty of folks in mud-soaked joggers and slip-ons, and they didn't look happy. There's lots of open ridges and magnificent views, so make sure you have wind-resistant clothing too.

This trail has some very steep sections, including a stairway up from Lake Lilla to Wombat Pool, and a stairway down from Crater Lake through the rainforest gully where the waterfall is located.

Total walk time is around 2 1/2 hours.

I'll have to hunt around and find pictures from our walk.

Cheers!
