Hi all,

We're off to Mt William on Wednesday and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations about the four camp sites at Stumpys Bay? I've seen to details at http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/file.aspx?id=6763
We'll be in a Jayco camper-trailer.

Thanks
Tony

Hey Tony,

Mt William is an awesome spot. When Anna and I were there we stayed at Top Camp. This campsite was isolated, with a beautiful beach to walk along. There is a toilet, which is draughty when the wind is blowing wink.gif This spot I would recommend if you want to be alone. There is plenty of wildlife around as well. Drive slow on the road, there were a couple of potholes but we managed to get around them no worries.

We didn't check out Stumpys so I can't tell you anything about that one.

Deep Creek was very busy, lots of people in the area. It is close to Eddystone point though which is a plus for that one. Too many people there for our liking but there is a toilet from memory. Roads are pretty good there too.

We checked out Policemans Point on the way to Doras point, near St Helens. This spot was isolated, no toilets. There were quite a few campsites there, but there was still a lot of privacy because of the arrangement of the sites. The road has got a lot of potholes so be careful when driving.

Hope this helps

And just a reminder there are camping fees in the national park.

Thanks Margie,

We enjoyed staying at Stumpys Bay and found that campsite number 1 was the biggest and most suited to caravans and motorhomes. I've attached a photo of Mt William (on the LHS) with Cape Naturaliste in the foreground.

Regards
Tony

Yes Margie, there are fees for camping and this is in addition to National Park fees. Only $6 per night for two people and there are forms/envelopes to put the money in at both the Information booth (just as you get to the National Park) and at each camp site. There is a solid steel box to put the money in and you display your portion of the form on the windscreen, or tent I suppose if walking.
