We camped here for a couple of days in the first week in January. We were able to camp right on the edge of the beach which was a great view first thing in the morning, laying in bed. It was also great, as you could send the kids to play on the beach and still be able to see them from the camp site. It is a great beach, vast and clean, although not safe to swim. But it was just a matter of walking over to the next bay to find a safe spot for the kids to swim.

Sorry, can't give an ammenities report as we have our own!

I actually found this to be a better place to camp than the Friendly Beaches at Freycinet, where we had spent the previous two nights. Even though it was still very busy, it just didn't seem as "touristy" - no offence meant to anybody, we just normally camp in a lot more remote areas and are not used to populated areas, but thought we might try civilisation for a change!! rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the report jackman. We had previously taken a look at this location but did not camp there. I believe there are basic toilet facilities spread around the grounds.

With the site you stayed at, being one of the ones right on the beach, how was the wind? I think when we checked this out we had been staying up the road at Sloop Reef, where the wind is mighty most days, and worried a little about the wind factor at swimcart.

For anyone who is looking for this location it is in the same area as Sloop Reef and Doras Point. From St Helens, head out along Binalong bay Rd, then turn left into Gardens Rd. The grounds are well signposted a couple of km up.

The wind was north westerly ( I think). It was quite strong there for a day but as we were faced easterly it was coming in behind us, so it was quite sheltered under our awning. We have a camper trailer, so the wind doesn't worry it too much, just need to make sure it is pegged in well with sand pegs and extra ropes. Mind you I probably wouldn't have liked to be in that spot if the weather turned easterly!!
