Just thought I would let everyone know if they've thought about buying one of these, that they are the best thing to take camping for cooking, especially when there is a fire ban and you can't use a camp oven. All you need is heat beads, and they cook the best roasts and vegies, fish, risotto, self saucing puddings-anything really. Afterall, there's only so much bbq food a person can bear! wink.gif

LOL jackman. Good thinking. In some places in Tassie there are no fire zones so it is best to take something like this with you anyway. Thanks for your tip

Saweeet! One of my passions is cooking and i can really see a cooking style like this coming right in handy.

Thought u might be interested in this Jackman. How cool would this be in a Cobb Cooker?? It's called Beer Can Chicken or Beer Butt Chicken. I've mostly done this in the kitchen oven (180 for 2.2 kg chook, about 1 hr 45 mins)
Some variations include using wine or fruit juice instead of beer. Adding garlic and /or herbs, such as mint, to the fluid.
I personally haven't roasted a bird any other way since adopting this method. There's plenty of other tutorials on youtube on various ways to do this recipe also

this way works

this way doesn't lol

That chicken sounds great. I think I may have seen this done on tv - maybe in a weber? I'm keen to give it ago. Off camping next weekend, so I think it may have to go on the menu!

Coolios!.. if you do get around to cookin' the chooken, then you'll have to let me know how it turns out.

We had a few ppl rock up last night in fact which gave me the chance to do twin chickens. Did one with orange juice and one with stout. I don't think that it makes a great deal of difference what the liquid is ..though some ppl thought they could taste the diff.. but the combo did make an awesome gravy with the juices that was left in the baking dish.
Last night i stuffed a mixture of fresh corriander, parsley, cumin spice and garlic between the breast meat and skin with huge success smile.gif

Unfortuately, the missus says it's a case of 'too much of a good thing' and asked me to fixate on another new recipe....so what i've come up with is..
Beer Keg Cow smile.gif ... hmmm just need an industrial oven now.
