I was amazed when outside over the weekend to see a flock of 10 rainbow lorikeets in a tree 2 doors down from us. We've been in this house for 16 years and never seen them before.
Now I want a camera with a good zoom lense. My little fuji finepix struggles with long shots.
Here's a couple I did manage to get fairly close to.

Gorgeous birds Tess. The extra zoom definitely helps with these kinds of shots, but how much zoom is enough??? LOL
I think Shane might be looking at selling his camera shortly (18x optical zoom) as he has just invested in a Pentax.

They are beautiful Tess. Very nice to look at but get a bit noisy when they get into a flock.

Lovely birds Tessc!
I remember when I was a kid we had a flock of about 60 rainbow lorikeets and up to about 300 (as a guesstimate) plain green lorikeets that would come to our house to be fed every afternoon (15 or 20 years ago before it was taboo to feed wild birds!)
We would go out with trays of seeds and a bit of honey and water and feed them. My parents have photos somewhere of us holding the trays and you can barely see us... there were birds literally convering us entirely. Great memories and lots of fund, but you needs a serious shower and a hearing sheck afterwards

I remember a similar thing when I was living in NSW. We had lorikeets, king parrots, rosellas and a myriad of other birds flocking in every morning and afternoon, beautiful array of colours and so much noise
It was awesome
