can't grow them up here as it doesn't get cool enough for them. hah and perth had them for $1 each - crazy considering we used to let them rot haha.

this subject was discussed once before in this thread. Maybe you might do well to PM kiwibird to find if they ever found them.

Good luck smile.gif

I will just have to give it a go !!! smile.gif then i can share them all with you guys lol

there is a fruit tree shop i've found that sells the plants so guess its trial and error

haha these such discussions are of course the most major ones when considering a move interstate!!!

The fruit tree shop you found Steph, is it in Tasmania? I just did a bit of a quick search and found a few places on the mainland that sell them, but nothing specifically here. Quarantine is quite strict here too, so importing plants could be tricky.

I did discover though that Peter Cundall was growing them at the Botanical Gardens in Hobart, so all may not be lost. They may be better known down here as Pineapple guava.

Look what I found smile.gif dancing pink elephant.gif

feijoa.jpg

Is this what you guys are looking for?

I have read that they fruit 5-6 months after they flower? Is this true. I know where this plant is and have access to it when it fruits, If I was reminded when the fruiting season starts, I could go and grab some seeds, and maybe try a couple for myself smile.gif

yay.gif that looks like it!!

Umm not sure about the 5-6 mths - I do know they are everywhere in winter at home so you're prob right. I'm so excited!!

My Mum just bought me the "Feijoa Recipe Book" back home in NZ so cant wait to get my hot hands on that. I only know how to make feijoa ice cream and feijoa cake so need some more ideas. Can't wait to do preserve feijoas too they were yummo!!!

Hope you do get to try them.

Hamish got down to Hobart on Sunday so fingers crossed all goes well and by May I should be moving down just in time for feijoa season lol smile.gif

Hmmmmm.

I think Mystic has been playing in my front yard.

I have one. Its growing at 375 metres above sea level. Very frost hardy. Flowers spasmodically, never had any fruit. Or maybe the possums get it first so I never see it. angry.gif

LMAO.gif Cascade. Unless you live in Rosebery, I have not been sneaking around your feijoa. Strange that if it flowers you don't get any fruit. Not that I know a thing about this particular plant but most fruiting plants produce flowers through the flower or blossom. You may have to learn to be faster than a speeding possum.
