Seeing as though we have a couple of members here thinking of moving to Queenstown, I thought it might be handy to record my transition as I move into the town myself. Will update this post after I have actually made the move and become more aware of things around town.

Yesterday I had to go down to the house there so Telstra could connect my phone. Whilst waiting for them I took a few shots from my front verandah. This image below is made up of 26 images stitched together, and shows part of the view I have from there. Photoshop had a few problems getting everything lined up in this shot, but it is still useable.

Click on the image below, and then again on the image that appears in a new window to get it at full size (much reduced from the original) but a warning to dial up users, this image is just under 3 Mb even at the reduced size.

I think it may be best to let the images do the talking about this town. However, if anyone ever wants any specific info about Queenstown, feel free to ask.

Thanks for your reply biggrin.gif ,

Im not fussed about the type of work, however I am a vocational trainer (welfare and disability work) and a case manager (community services). Currently I am director of studies (like a head teacher) of a private RTO (training organisation) for international students.

I have worked in retail when younger, credit collections, run folk art/craft classes from home and had general office work positions. Ive also been a security guard at the airport.

Happy to try anything really.

Pamela

Thanks for the extra info Pamela. (Anna here using Shane's computer and login). I have noticed around town that there is a fair bit of work in hospitality around Queenstown. Your folk art & craft classes could be a nice little earner for you there also. Not sure what the current situation is with the main mine in town right now, though it was due to go back into full production after some flooding halted works a couple of months back.

Will be back in Queenie on Monday and should have a chance to take a look around town at the employment agencies to see what they may have that could utilise your training skills. There is certainly work in the area if you are not fussy, and quite possibly even if you are fussy too.

A few more sights of Queenstown..

Abt Railway
Attached Image: ANNA1889.jpg

The next two shots are from the Pioneer Cemetery. Possibly one of the nicest cemeteries I have seen, set on a hill surrounded by lush tree ferns and other flora. Could not resist capturing a wild Shane V in his natural habitat.

Attached Image: ANNA1914.jpg

Queenstown football oval - yes it has a gravel surface, and yes they still play football (Aussie Rules) on this.
Attached Image: ANNA1796.jpg

Mt Lyell panorama (5 shots stitched together taken from Spion Kop lookout)

Thank you Bec. More than happy to post images of the place for you, or anyone else who may be considering moving to the wild west. I suppose it gives you something visual to focus on and remind you of all the hassle of moving being endured for a reasonably nice destination.

Have also discovered in my wanderings around town that the people here are quite friendly and often give a nod and a g'day as you pass in the street. So far it has also proven to be a very peaceful and quiet little town. My place is high above the main shopping area and sounds do tend to travel up here clearly, but it is extremely peaceful most of the time.

There is a small furniture store here that is open 2 days per week, though it is more of a boutique style. The two IGA supermarkets in town have many local notices posted on their windows offering almost anything and everything for sale through private sellers.

Have not had any problems getting supplies of food, etc, at the local stores, though I will mention that the price of booze here is very high, and in some cases 50% higher than it was in Rosebery. Luckily I have someone in Rosebery who can import for me when they visit. Other general prices are quite reasonable, mind you it is quite a few years since I lived near a major supermarket.
