Hi Tom, and welcome to the community.
We currently have a number of members lookign at moving down here, and you may like to look through the recent posts listed on the front page to see the kinds of questions they have been asking.
If you look around the fringes of Hobart you will find many quiet, rural or semi rural locations. Sandford, Midway Point, Richmond, Sorell, and Dodges Ferry areas in the east are very nice. Many of these smaller places have limited shops etc, but are not far at all from shopping centres. South of Hobart there is the Huonville, Cygnet region, also quite lovely and again rural or semi rural. None of the places I have listed are more than about 40 minutes drive to Hobart centre.
Are you looking for acreages or house?
Best of luck and look forward to having you around as you move through your journey to paradise

Another good area is the Derwent Valley around New Norfolk , and that has public transport to Hobart. Also behind Glenorchy is the Collinsvale area , which is closer but has no public transport.

Hi Tom , welcome to Tassie. We've been here in Tassie for 6 years and have found a great spot on Glen Dhu Creek at Molesworth (11 kms. from New Norfolk). We are 40 kms from Hobart central . We have seen quite a lot of our state but still like to come home to our valley. Hope you find what you are looking for. regards baznm
