Love these threads so much, that I thought I'd start one too. To kick things off, I'll post two photos one from last week, and one for this week so I'm on track for a March 2010 start.

First one is a new resident I found had moved in while I was away in Tassie. It's an albino Ring Tail Possum:

And the next is the top swimming hole (one of three) at the local waterfall:

Great stuff Natalie, look forward to seeing your images from up that way for the next year.

That albino possum is very cute.

Onya Natalie smile.gif. Good to see someone else joining in the fun. Love the ring-tail...are they very rare, the albinos that is? That swimming hole looks very cooling, I could jump in and that is where you would probably find me if I went your way LOL.

Great shots Natalie, well done

Hi Shane, this albino possum is the first I have ever seen... so they maybe somewhat rare.

And yes, the swimming hole is fantastic - fast flow rate, and deliciously cool, which is such a treat here as the last of summer plays out!

Now that swimming hole is somewhere I'd like to explore. Where is it?

Sorry Di, it is on Magnetic Island off the coast of North Qld. sad.gif

Suppose it is a bit confusing, since this is in the 'Tasmanian Talk' section.

Magnetic Island hey? Lovely spot. I lived at Townsville as a kid, right on the beach near the baths in what was then a RAAF base but which now is high rise monstrosity land!

Not the greatest quality - but these Black Cockatoos are very shy, and I had to sneak the photo through a blind with a window pane in the way.

Very nice birds Natalie, and not a bad shot given the conditions you had to get through.

Yes, great to capture these lovely birds. Saw a small raucous flock fly over Derby yesterday. Apparently they are dynamite on fruit trees.

not only fruit trees but pine plantations as well, it appears the yellow tailed black cockatoo and its cousin the red tailed black cockatoo (which I think these are, given I cant see the under tail section) eat pine nuts, but once they eat their fill they just start nibbling off the new tips which makes the pine tree grow in funny directions, not straight like the forestry department want them to be, they also go to ground and ringbark a fully mature tree, not well liked by forestry departments, sorry to prattle on but I used to breed rare Australian native birds and it is still a hobby of mine, great shots, well done!

Hi Dave. Not only do we have cockatoos here to contend with but also wallabies and the next door's goat who wanders at will. I planted some parsley, coriander and oregano and it's all gone down the throats of someone, not me!!!! When we get back from the big island, we are going to put in a fence before we proceed with our vegie patch.

ah the local wildlife LOL! gotta love them, I've been watching a show on the idiot box about a fellow who moved from Melbourne?? I think, he used to be a food critic or something similar, his garden has been devoured by possums so he ended up placing a large net around and over it, he is around huonville I think!

the joys of self sufficiency, HAH! wish i had your problems to contend with, half your luck, hey how about posting some piccys of your mansion so I can continue my delusion!!

Very well said. I think it is settled that once Joss & Di return from the mainland we all invade Derby bearing cases of beer for a great weekend.
