Hi to everyone,

New member, planning to move to Devonport in late 2010, after 10 yrs in Sydney. Looking forward to low traffic noise and a relaxing life-style.

Am a single mum with a 10 year-old son and we are spending most of 2010 travelling in Europe with no formal schooling (yippeeee!).

My son will enter year 6 in 2011 - any advice on schools??? - both primary(final year) and secondary. Have looked at websites for the three high schools, they all look ok. He's a bit shy and needs encouragement and might need extra help academically at first, having missed out on year 5.

Which primary schools tend to feed into which high schools? Which high schools are more nurturing and have less bullying/social problems? What streets in Devonport have kids of similar ages to play with? We would love somewhere neighbourly, where kids play at each other's houses or on the street, and ride their bikes to school - can we find this in Devonport?

All and any advice and comments gratefully received. Cheers!

Hi & welcome

Hopefully somebody will be able to help you out with the kind of info you are wanting about schools and munchkin friendly areas.

Good luck with the move and sorting it all out.

Hi dh2,
To some extent you definately need to be selective. Would certainly suggest staying away from East Dev.
Also a few other areas are dodgy as is the case with most larger towns and cities.

Miandetta Primary has a good name around the teaching profession as a caring environment and excellent standards. Its also a reasonable area to locate yourself.

Reece High School is also close by and has a good name.

But of course they are not the only ones.

When you get around to making a move and you check out some possible locations I can probably give you a heads up or find out for you. smile.gif

Main question would be..... Why Devonport? There are some great surrounding areas.

But personal transport would almost be a must.

Some, walk in the rain, others, just get wet.
